Bento #46 - Panda Miso Grilled salmon

Ah, prepared miso grilled salmon for my boy's lunch today. This time round, I used white miso for the marinade. I think it tastes much better, more flavorful probably because I'm more generous with the miso...hee. The little panda is holding edamame bean and broccoli in his hands. If I have time, I might try to figure out how to do a bamboo for the panda, it's his favourite food after all.
Love the silicon cups that I have just bought from Daiso ( one of my favorite stores these days).

Have a great Friday!

Bento #45 - Sweet and sour fish

Sweet and sour fish for lunch today. Followed the recipe from http://kannammacooks.com/sweet-and-sour-fish/ but sadly it looks nothing like what she cooked! I believe it's a good recipe as it tastes quite good. Just that I use the air fryer instead and I guess I did not not grasp the right temperature and timing.

Recently, besides being very interested in bento and recipes, the next top on my list thing to do is to to organize and tidy up my house! It will certainly take time and a pretty big project but I will just take one step at a time.

First thing to do: Tidy up my freezer. I can't wait for my next trip to Daiso.

Bento #44 - Lego for lunch?

Today is Friday and my boy gets to bring a bento to school. Today, he is having honey baked cod and Lego for lunch!

The Lego head is shaped from sushi rice and the orange Lego blocks are carrots. Pretty satisfied with the results. I wanted to make some white Lego blocks from potatoes too but they became mash potatoes.I guess potatoes is not a good choice, should have used fish cakes instead. My son's sleepy and tired face beamed with delight when he saw the food. Priceless.

Not to forget my hubby. He's having the same food, topped with some fried garlic.

#Bento 43 - Braised chicken and bitter gourd

My favorite bitter gourd for lunch today. I don't used to like bitter gourd because of their bitter taste but I'm not sure since when, my taste buds changed, maybe I have aged.....haa. Bitter gourd has become one of my favorite food. I like bitter gourd with eggs or bitter gourd soup, which is so cooling, perfect for our hot hot weather now.

Recipe for Braised chicken and bitter gourd

1 boneless chicken thigh
Half a bitter gourd
Minced garlic
5 slices of ginger
Half a cup of chicken stock

Seasoning:
Half tbsp of oyster sauce
Half tbsp of chinese cooking wine
Half tbsp of miso
1 tsp of sesame oil

1) Cut the chicken thigh and bitter gourd.
2) Scald the meat and bitter gourd with oil and then remove.
3) Add in the minced garlic and ginger and fry until fragant.
4) Add in the chicken meat, bitter gourd and seasonings and stir fry so that the meat is coated with the seasonings.
5) Pour in the chicken stock and bring it to a boil at medium heat and then simmer until the stock thickens

Enjoy!

Bento #42 Minced meat with tofu and homemade pickles

Minced meat with tofu for lunch today. Can't wait to try my own homemade pickles.Love them but think I added a tad too much sugar, prefer it to be more sour.Hope my hubby likes them and have a fabulous Monday!

A conversation with my 5 year old again =)
Mummy and Rayson at a shopping centre...waiting for papa again.....
Rayson:
Mummy:
Rayson:
Mummy:
Rayson:
Mummy:
Rayson:
Rayson: 。。
Mummy:
Rayson:

Bento #41 - Fried Kway Tiao and grilled potatoes

My #1 requested to bring fried kway tiao to his school this week. Grilled potatoes and steamed veges as side and some grapes for fruits.

This is my first attempt making the small little chicks from quail eggs. Hope the little chicks are still around and not thrown out of their nest by lunch time =S. I really love cute bentos but they are too time consuming. Hopefully with more practice, less time is taken.

Hope he enjoys his lunch.

A conversation with my #1:

Mummy:
Papa:
Mummy:
Rayson:

Bento #40-Miso grilled salmon

Miso grilled salmon for lunch today. I must have been too cautious with my miso because I'm so worried that it will turn out too salty. There isn't much of miso taste, well, I guess I will improve with my next attempt. Grilled potatoes and steamed veges (my lovely okra) makes my lunch a complete and healthy one.

An interesting conversation with my #1:
Rayson and mummy are going to the car park where Papa is waiting for them to drive them to church.Mummy is unhappy that Papa has chosen too big a bag for Rayson.
Mummy:
Rayson:
Rayson:ok
Rayson:
Mummy:
Rayson:

Ephesians 5:22-33

22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

Bento #39 - Fried udon and tamagoyaki

Packed lunch for my #1 to bring to school. Fried udon, tamagoyaki, steamed veges and corns.
Though the fried udon is pretty easy to prepare, I spent quite a significant amount of time preparing the tamagoyaki! Probably due to my lack of a proper sieve and a measuring cup or simply just my lack of skills.

But I'm pretty happy with how my tamagoyaki looks.Hope my #1 and hubby love it too =)
Happy Friday!

Bento #38 - Japanese Curry

This is my hearty Japanese Curry lunch for today. I cooked the wrong rice though, should have cooked the Japanese sushi rice since it's Japanese Curry but I absent mindedly threw in the brown rice instead. Love my Hello Kitty lunch box which no other member in my family appreciates.

Used a new lunch box today and yes I think my latest hobby is collecting lunch boxes. It's a SG50 special edition but I would prefer Hello Kitty edition =p

This is my hubby's lunch. I think I cooked too much, the serving is large enough for 3 and the majority goes to my hubby of course. Fortunately, he doesn't put on weight easily. Really a blessing indeed!

Bento #37 - Tuna pasta

Hoping that my hubby will get to enjoy hot and steaming pasta for his lunch,I decided to use my electric lunch box, something that I have not been using for some time because I feel that it's abit bulky.Well, but maybe it's worth it for a hot and steaming meal.I've always loved pasta because I guess I have mentioned before (or did I not?),anything with tomatoes seems nice.Cream based pasta is abit too rich for my preference.
Some steamed veges and roasted baby potatoes
to complete the set.

I'm too lazy to bring my electric lunch box so Lunchbot lunchbox will do for me,never mind the cold pasta.

A set to share with my colleague as well.Sorry that she doesn't have any veges and potatoes so I compensated with an egg...hee.Hope she enjoys the pasta!

Something about Bento #36,my hubby told me that he actually dropped his lunchbox and most of his lunch landed on the floor(not at home but outside).

But..........he did something unimaginable....he swept his food back into his lunchbox and finished it!

I think it's kind of silly but extremely sweet of him to do this.He has always been a very appreciative hubby and I know he finished the food because he does not want to waste my effort.I'm really glad nothing happened to him,as in he didn't get any tummy upset or anything serious.

He's my source of motivation. The bad thing is I might not be a very good cook because my hubby is happy with whatever I cook for him and will definitely wipe everything clean. He's not lying when he said the food is good.I know he means it.Just that maybe only he thinks so...haaaa.

I thank God for blessing me with such a great man.A man with a beautiful heart,a man who means every word he said,a man whom I look up to and will seek advice from whenever I need help. Most importantly,a man who brings me closer to God.

Thank you Father.

Stove-top pizza

I know this blog is for my bentos but I really love this too much not to post.Made a stove-top pizza for dinner today and it's really unbelievably easy!
Used my happycall pan for it and I think it did a good job!

We've boycotted pizzas for some time because of so many unknown "poisons" in them.I actually have some recipes of pizza dough that I want to try but can't really find a good time to do it.But I just can't wait to try this recipe after seeing how easy it is.

My boys love them too and finished most of their dinner.Forgot the broccoli (still lying in the pot),the greens will certainly make this picture even nicer.

A satisfying dinner for all of us.

Bento #36

Just a simple lunch of grilled saba, scrambled eggs and steamed veges today.I feel exhausted today and really glad that weekend is coming. And I think I'm running out of ideas for lunch.....where is a good place for more inspirations......

Something that has been bothering me today, I've always loved the rainbow and would always love to add or draw a rainbow on my DIY gifts and cards for my friends.A rainbow just brightens everything up. Most importantly, the rainbow is a promise from God that He would never destroy the earth with a flood again, a reminder of God's faithfulness to us.

However the rainbow has been abused. It has now become a tool for people to show their support for U.S. Supreme Court' ruling that same-sex couples have the constitutional right to marry, by superimposing a rainbow over their profile picture. It's not something worth celebrating about because everything will just continue to spiral downwards.

Homosexuality is a Sin in the Bible. God is never wrong and if we continue to disobey him, we would need to bear the consequences of our actions. I do not condemn them but certainly will not condone their lifestyle. Marriage by God's design is the union of one man and one woman. A man is joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh. And this shall always be the way till the end of times.

We can love the sinner but not the sin.If we really love them,I think we should let them know that what they are doing is wrong and direct them to the right path instead of letting them live under the false impression that they are a group of people in society who has suffered injustice and has been denied their rights to love.

I pray that Singapore will stand firm and will never legalize same-sex marriage.

Bento #35

Oh,I'm abit excited today because I'm going to prepare a Bento for my #1 as well. He has requested to bring a bento to school after seeing the food that I have prepared for my hubby. So here's his lunch, steamed chicken wings and mushrooms, 2 quail eggs, steamed veges, cherry tomatoes and 1 cuttlefish ball. I think it's abit too much for him but after today,I'll be able to gauge better how much food to prepare for him. Really hope that he enjoys his lunch....(and take good care of  the lunchbox please....)

And this is my hubby's overflowing lunchbox.
Love the steamed chicken wings and mushrooms because they are easy to prepare and yummy to eat.
